Volunteers Needed for American Cancer Society Relay For Life

Title: Volunteers Needed for American Cancer Society Relay For Life
Location: Weston, MA
Link out: Click here
Description: Local residents are encouraged to help plan or participate in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. The unique event raises cancer awareness while serving as a celebration for cancer survivors, a memorial for loved ones lost, and a rally for the community to fight back against cancer. North Shore residents are needed to serve as planning committee members, volunteers, team captains, and/or team members. Relay For Life events are happening in the North Shore communities of Amesbury, Burlington, Cape Ann (Gloucester), Haverhill, Lynn, Methuen, North Reading, Peobody, Tri-Town (Middleton), Wakefield and Woburn.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s largest signature activity as well as the most successful national fundraiser. Relay For Life events are 12 to 24 hours in length and go overnight. Teams of 8 to 15 people raise money in advance and camp out at a local high school, park or fairground and take turns walking, jogging, or running around a track or path. Teams are encouraged to camp out in tents and enjoy the great music, food, and camaraderie of the event.

Each Relay begins with a “Victory Lap”, where cancer survivors walk with their caregivers in celebration of their survivorship. Survivors wishing to walk in the “Victory Lap” need not be on a team to participate. Each Relay For Life event also hosts a Luminaria Ceremony, which honors cancer survivors and those who are no longer with us, and a Fight Back Ceremony, where participants pledge to make a difference in the fight against cancer throughout the year.

For more information or to volunteer at an American Cancer Society Relay For Life event in your community, please call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.relayforlife.org.
