I would like to nominate the Ale House in Amesbury for the best beer selection on the North Shore.

Gulu Gulu Cafe in Salem (and formerly in Lynn…single tear). Although they don’t have a ton for the hop heads (which I am), there are tons of great imports (and I don’t mean Stella….I mean dope Belgians and big beers) and lots of awesome American beers as well (think Ommegang, Rogue, Dogfish Head). Even still, cool vibe, good food, live music, and the wine/good beer/limited liquor scares away all the “ya dudes.”

I would like to nominate Lobsta House in Gloucester

Barking Dog in Amesbury – great selection of beer on tap & in bottles. Unique stuff that “beer geeks” will love.

Salem Beer works is always a great place for a brew with the best burgers. their beer selection is always changing and plesantly refreshing.

Cape Ann Brewing Company’s new Brewpub has a great selection of brewed-on-premise beers including Fisherman’s TeaPary which was made with some of the same teas that were thrown overboard during the Boston Tea Party.
Its a small, family-friendly spot, not a big, noisy restaurant that is focused on serving large crowds. You can sit in any of the rocking chairs at Cape Ann Brewing Company and or at the long German Beer Hall style tables and play a game of Boggle over a beer with your buddies. They’re definitely focused on the beer, not big business.
Cape Ann Brewing Company was a 2008 BONS winner – and rightfully so! My vote goes to Cape Ann Brewing Company’s Brewpub.
Cheers.

I agree – on the North Shore nothing comes close to the Gulu-Gulu
March 25, 2009 at 3:15 pm
BY FAR the Gulu Gulu in Salem. The most creative, eclectic and well though out selection of beers on the North Shore. Moreover, the owner (I think he is at least) or some of the regulars at the bar are more than happy to discuss beer and food pairings.
On top of that, lots of good New England beers and a complete lack of Bud/Coors/Miller products, a true brew mecca!

Gulu Gulu in Salem!

I second Jeffery A. — Gulu Gulu in Salem. Best selection on the North Shore! And a cute staff (Mr. Lemieux) to boot!

The Gulu Gulu in Salem has a fantastic selection of beers to keep you firmly rooted in that seat, enjoying the scene. At the GG, you’ll be hard pressed to choose from Belgian imports, craft beers (which the owner takes pride in searching out), a few north-shore faves on tap, and even an intriguing wallet-friendly “recession beer of the moment” (to quote the menu).
The Gulu definitely leads the pack in beer selection. A++

Gulu-Gulu has a nice selection and great vibe. I also love Salem Beer Work’s Watermelon beer, and get it to go because I’m not too crazy about the corporate food though…

Cape Ann Brewery in Gloucester has several fantastic beers with new seasonals all the time. Their Navigator is my favorite beer of all time; similar to Shiner Bock from Texas (but better!). The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual, and the staff is terrific!

The Port Tavern in NBPT has a great selection!
