Re: Kate Hammond at the Grapvine Restaurant in Salem. Not sure I would focus on this food.

Big disappointment. We go out to eat a lot. The Grapevine used to be good. It's gone downhill quickly. My husband ordered the beef tenderloin for for $29 and I ordered the salmon for $24. We were both very disappointed.

For what it is, the food is overpriced. The waitstaff is non-existent, the decor is outdated (stuck in the 1980's) and the restaurant was empty. We were one of two tables in the entire restaurant that was occupied at prime time on a Friday night.

I would recommend saving your money and going elsewhere. It feels like they are going out of business.

Heads up that the Daughtry presale is NOW happening. Swoop some tickets while you can! This is going to be an incredible show; the new album is the best they have Ever released. I attended the Lifehouse/Daughtry tour over a year ago and was blown away by the performance and am counting down the days for this show!!! They have quite an energetic flare on stage, and Chris's voice is phenomenal and MUST be experienced in a live setting.

I have hired Aricia for special occasions to dress me up and shop my closet. She never disappoints when putting together an outfit – whether it is a gown with fancy jewelry or a great pair of jeans and blazer for a date night with the hubby. I always feel fabulous when I head out the door in the perfect outfit!

Thank you so much to Jeanne OBrien Coffey and the editors at NorthShore Magazine for highlighting the areas small businesses. To me, a community is built stronger by these small family owned businesses as they can become a place where neighbors can get to know one another more easily. Since starting Loop Consignment in Swampscott, Ive gotten to know so many people in the area. I feel more at home than I have in 8 years. Thank you to all the new friends I have made for taking the time to shop here first. Also, I loved the idea of a consignment field trip. My store would love to get involved! 781-592- LOOP (5667)

I was hopeing I could get a little information on an item that will be in a coming auction. Its a copper pot item number 1054. selling estimate is between $200. & $400...it had been in a previous auction as item number 8217 with a selling estimate of $300. & $500. and it didn't sell in the first auction..
What I was wondering is what it was used for. I know its old, around 1880.

My wife and I have lived in Georgetown for going on 33 years now. Still known as the new guys to some, LOL. We've seen this little quaint New England, historically significant town double in population and become a diverse community. We are glad to have an appeal to a wide range of people which ensures we will remain an economically diverse town. We raised our 3 children, who attended the Georgetown schools K through High School graduation. When we moved to town our 2nd child was 1-week old. We moved him into town in a laundry basket filled with clean clothes.

Great article for a great town. Come on by and visit. Make a stop at Theo's for breakfast or lunch

I've enjoyed shopping and consigning. It's hard to go back to paying top dollar for clothes and accessories, especially for high-end items. Things a consigner has to be alert about: 1) the shop can suddenly decide to lower the price of everything in the store for a big seasonal sale. I am planning to retrieve my consigned items from Boston cochain Second Time Around because a 30% - 50% off sale has been extended. That really torpedoes the amount the consigner gets when the original best-case amount was 40% of the original sale price. That means the most a consigner receives is $40 on a $100 sale ... and then if the price is lowered to 50% off, it's suddenly 40% of $50, which is $20... which comes out to 20% of the purchase price in the store. There is no incentive to take items in.
2) when you leave the items with the store you don't have a clear idea of what they'll sell for. The consigner should know when they leave or before the item is priced in the store what the sale price will be. at I found this to be true with the same chain, STA, and 3)if the same store employee sets the price then buys the item, one wonders if the price that was set could've been higher. That happened to me, and seemed like a conflict of interest, especially when the item was a real silver pin that sold for $6 to the employee. I wish I hadn't bothered to take it into that store. 4) the consigner is the one who loses if the item "goes missing". So -- those are some things to think about if you are consigning with a particular chain of consignment stores in Boston.

I’ve enjoyed shopping and consigning. It’s hard to go back to paying top dollar for clothes and accessories, especially for high-end items. Things a consigner has to be alert about: 1) the shop can suddenly decide to lower the price of everything in the store for a big seasonal sale. I am planning to retrieve my consigned items from Boston cochain Second Time Around because a 30% – 50% off sale has been extended. That really torpedoes the amount the consigner gets when the original best-case amount was 40% of the original sale price. That means the most a consigner receives is $40 on a $100 sale … and then if the price is lowered to 50% off, it’s suddenly 40% of $50, which is $20… which comes out to 20% of the purchase price in the store. There is no incentive to take items in.

A family holiday tradition that we have followed since our children were toddlers is spending an evening shopping in downtown Newburyport. We enjoy strolling from shop to shop in the bustling outdoor scene. Sometimes we'll go on a Friday evening to enjoy the holiday open houses in the shops, other times we'll avoid the big crowds and go midweek. We find this old fashioned style of shopping to be a welcome alternative to the indoor malls. The cool air, carolers, colorful shop windows, and even the occaisional snow banks along the brick sidewalks, puts us all in the holiday spirit.

This tradition goes all the way back to my great grandparents....each Christmas Eve all the extended family would gather for a festive ham dinner. When the coffee was on and the desserts were being served, us kids (I had 13 cousins!) would disappear into the living room for kid fun: roaring fire, television and goofing off. Unbeknownst to us, one of my 5 uncles would be haggling over who would go to the basement that year to get suited up. Suddenly....just like the magic you see on tv....the faintest sound of bells jingling would be heard. We would all roar with excitement as a chair from the dining room was fetched and placed into the middle of the room. "Santa" would appear with a huge sack of presents at the back porch. He sat for a while, sang some songs, handed out gifts to everyone in the family and we ALL had to sit on Santa’s lap for a photo, even the aunts and grandparents! It was magic. Even as we got older, trying to guess which uncle it was, it was still the most memorable moment of each year.

The tradition moves on this year and although the family won't be as large and the ham won't be homemade, there will be Christmas magic. And it will all start with a little jingle!

My favorite family tradition is a 4 wheeler ride Christmas morning over to my boyfriend's parents home across the lake from us in Pelham, NH. Christmas morning we wake up and open our gifts and throw something on for a trek through the woods on our ATV's. If the weather has been cold enough (as in past year's) we will make our way over the ice on the lake. It is a peaceful and cheerful moment after the hussle and bussle of preparing for the holiday.

My favorite holiday tradition is walking around Salem visiting all the local shops. Walking down Washington Street, Derby Street, by the Hawthorne Hotel and Pickering wharfe. The cobblestones on Essex Street and Church Street feels like we are walking into a Dicken's classic! So festive!
Thank you to all the local business for keeping it magical!

Our tradition each year is to host a Christmas dinner with friends in our town. For many, family is just to far away..so we become family for the day! It is wonderful to be able to celebrate with each and everyone one! This has been a tradition for many years and started 20 years ago on a beach in California during Thanksgiving. ..we were all without our families, but we came together to celebrate the holiday and it is one day I will always remember
