Shubie’s Market Place may just be the best place on the planet to shop for gourmet food. What better way to spend an afternoon then sampling spreads and crackers and munching on gourmet popcorn and pretzels? Whether you need a perfectly prepared gourmet meal, fancy cheese, a bottle of fine wine, a box of naughty or natural nibbles, or a decadent pastry, Shubie’s is the go-to place for gourmet. » 16 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead, 781- 631-0149, shubies.com.

For fine dining, there’s no place like Duckworth’s Bistrot in Gloucester. They offer half portions and half glasses of wine for maximum sampling. Delicious.

Fine Dining at EDDIES Restaurant in Ipswich is excellent. Outstanding upscale cuisine in a relaxed elegant atmosphere, offering an extensive wine list, wonderful martinis and an attentive friendly staff. Delicious!

I’m a big fan of Eddie’s in Ipswich. You can always count on a wonderful meal, with every dish really just perfect. I have gone there with groups as large as 10, and have even eaten alone at the bar, felt comfortable in both cases. I often suggest Eddie’s to others and they ALWAYS thank me. Don’t miss out on Eddie’s!

Eddie’s on Rte. 133 (next to Bruni’s marketplace) is an awesome find! If you’re looking for an upscale, high-quality restaurant without the upscale attitude this is the place for you. Owner-run and operated, Eddie’s atmosphere is a very welcoming, understated elegence. The menu is well-rounded with a decidedly Northern Italian bias. Everthing is fresh and made-to-order; a rarity these days. The wine list is well-balanced and the martini list is very creative and unique. Never have I left there disappointed; the food is absolutely scrumptious and I usually have left-overs for lunch the next day. The personable and knowledgable staff is always ready to attend to your needs. It’s just as great for large get-togethers as it is for an intimate dining experience. I can’t say enough about the place! Definately try the lobster, rack of lamb, stuffed veal chop, or the salmon.. To die for! Oh, and leave room for the coconut cake; it’s incredible (best with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.. YUM!). Do yourself a favor and make a reservation today.

Eddie’s is by far the best restaurant on the North Shore for gourmet food. From the appetizer’s to the entrees, everything was exceptional. The wine, a pinot nior don brunet, was fantastic!

My husband and I brought some friends last week for dinner and they couldn’t stop raving about it. We tried the rice pudding dessert, among a couple other fav’s, and they all where amazing…loved it!!!!!

I highly recommend you try it. You will NOT be disappointed…..:)

One of the things I miss most about living in Salem, MA is dining at The Grapevine. The combination of stellar service, cozy ambience and, of course, Kate and Vittorio’s beautiful food make this restaurant a gem on the North Shore. Whenever I return to visit, The Grapevine is part of my itinerary. Hands down, the best Gourmet spot on the North Shore. Posers step aside!

George’s in Haverhill.. their food is amazing. In the 5 years we’ve been going (old & new location), I’ve never had anything bad.. service is always great. New location is gorgeous, as is the food.

  60. Kai Sopheark on Sat, 25th Apr 2009 7:41 am

We live in Vermont and a visit to the Northshore would not be complete without eating at our favorite restaurant of all time, anywhere — the Grapevine. The food is fabulous and the owners give food to the local shelter every week, host an annual hunger brunch and have done many other fundraisers for worthy causes (911 fire fighters, Sharing Foundation of Cambodia, the Jack Hammond scholarship fund).

  61. MARIA on Tue, 28th Apr 2009 3:41 pm

THE GRAPEVINE WAS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC, THE SERVICE WAS THE BEST AND THE PLACE WAS SO COMFORTABLE. CAN HARDLY WAIT TO GO BACK.

Evenfall Restaurant. If you ever, ever, ever, find yourself looking to try something completely unique and one of a kind, everything from the homegrown produce to the muddled fresh fruit drinks, to the incredible organic entrees is one of a kind. They make their own cheese, pasta, ice cream, ketchup, etc… crazy good.

  63. MC Slim JB on Fri, 1st May 2009 8:27 am

It’s funny to see the shills at work here. Here’s a tip: space out the fake raves for the restaurant you own or work for. Don’t post 10 in a row.

I’m glad my blog review of Evenfall attracted a customer who liked it. As I relate in the review, I’m not always so impressed by North Shore restaurants, but that one wowed me.

I haven’t spent a lot of time in “gourmet” restaurants on the North Shore in the past year, but historically speaking, I have enjoyed The Grapevine and Cassis. I like the Wild Horse, Keon’s, and The Franklin Cape Ann, but those belong in a different category.

  64. Chris Schneider on Fri, 1st May 2009 5:54 pm

Best Gourmet Restaurant: Grapevine in Salem, hands down. Always exceptional food and excellent service. The wine list is small, but with fantastic picks. Plus, the half portions available for many items on the dinner menu are just right for most people and make dining there as inexpensive as eating at one of the large chain restaurants. Can’t beat it for quality, atmosphere, and price.

  65. sue wilson on Wed, 13th May 2009 8:03 am

The Grapevine has consistently good food, drink and atmosphere.

  66. Gil on Sat, 16th May 2009 3:14 pm

From the lounge, to the private dining room, to the seasonally inventive new england cuisine, my wife and I can only say Evenfall, Evenfall, Evenfall.

  67. John on Mon, 18th May 2009 5:55 pm

I have to agree with the previous poster… Evenfall Restaurant has such a huge selection between the regular menu, the bar and lounge menu, and the weekly ‘fixed price’ menus… and each an every thing on there is original and seasonal, and home made perfection. All you have to do is read their menus. evenfallrestaurant.com

  68. Kelly Martin on Mon, 18th May 2009 8:38 pm

The atmosphere is second to none. Cozy, sexy and the best lighting! Love hanging out in the lounge.

  69. Jay faro on Wed, 27th May 2009 12:41 pm

Originally drove to North Andover to go to another place but saw the sign for Evenfall and it reminded me that I had meant to go there by now… wow… I am glad I did. My wife Loved the Acai Martini and I slid into a Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives… saw a Northshore magazine and award on the wall and wanted to say: You know how to pick them, it lend credibility to the Mag when NorthShore knows about these kinds of places before I do. Good Job. Evenfall is what ‘BONS’ stands for.

  70. Lisa Bartlett on Wed, 27th May 2009 2:18 pm

I love Evenfall Restaurant, particularly the lounge. Excellent food and the lounge is an intimate and welcoming place to share time with friends. Affordable appetizers and meals are served. Dirty Blue Martini is my favorite served ice cold and smooth. The lounge staff are second to none. The wine tasting events are also a favorite — you receive a nice serving of gourmet courses along with the wine pairings. It makes for a lovely evening.

  71. Anne Tobin on Wed, 27th May 2009 2:22 pm

Love, love, love Evenfall. Doesn’t matter if you’re with a group, a significant other, a girls night out – the place never disappoints! We eat out a lot, and have never been disappointed – excellent menu, creative with sides paired well; delicious drinks (martinis are a fav) and great atmosphere. Really fun to have an after dinner drink in the bar, especially when there is live music! Definitely give it a try if you haven’t been. Don’t be deceived by the outside – you’ll be so surprised when you step in!
