The frozen yogurt scene has gone through the roof in the last few years, and at the helm of this sweet tooth-satisfying craze is Pinkberry. Originating in West Hollywood, California, Pinkberry seems to have found the secret recipe to success. Pinkberry first opened in 2005, offering hip and health-conscious cups of luscious frozen yogurt dappled with sweet and savory toppings. Today, the frozen yogurt chain operates more than 170 shops across the globe. The shop offers a variety of low fat frozen yogurt flavors and more than 30 toppings, from fresh-cut fruit to crunchy candy. Patrons can customize their yogurt with as many toppings as will fit comfortably in their cup. And now, Pinkberry is readying to set up shop on the North Shore.
We caught up with CEO of NE Frog Pond, Developer of Pinkberry in New England, Trippe Lonian, to talk frozen yogurt and their upcoming grand opening.
With three successful locations in Boston, what brings Pinkberry to the North Shore? We’ve always wanted a location on the North Shore. In fact, a couple of our partners live there. At our locations in Boston, folks driving down there, have told us that they would love a store closer to them on the North Shore. In other words, the customers have demanded it. We’re very excited to open a store on the North Shore, and Beverly, specifically.
Going off of that question, why Beverly? A lot of customers were saying, “Why not Beverly?” We spent a lot of time thinking about what property would be right to deliver our Pinkberry experience. The one in Beverly is bigger than usual and it’s a beautiful store. We’re excited about joining the Beverly community.
The Pinkberry location in Harvard Square is very popular, especially with the college students. With several colleges around the North Shore region, do you think students will be a main source of business? I think Pinkberry appeals to a lot of people. We’ve gained a tremendous following with college students, but there’s also a strong appeal with families.
Are there any changes or advancements you plan on making that will set you apart from the other local frozen yogurt shops on the North Shore? Definitely – we really focus on delivering a unique product that’s crisp, light, refreshing. We work with our staff to really enhance the experience customers have at Pinkberry. There’s a new flavor coming out next week – strawberry – that we’re excited about. So, we’re always looking for the next best thing to bring to customers.
Will customers on the North Shore get the same catering and delivery options that Pinkberry offers through its general site? Yes, although those options won’t be available right when the store opens. We like to have customers come visit the store at first and, eventually, we roll out the delivery options later.
This makes seven in Massachusetts – any future plans for more? There are – we have a couple of other locations planned for next year in 2013. But right now, we want to stay focused on our location in Beverly.
The shop will open to the public May 26th at its location on 23 Enon St. – Alex Churchill
