SALEM JAZZ AND SOUL FESTIVAL SPRING GALA

The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival’s fourth-annual Spring Gala concert will be held on Saturday evening, April 17, in the Peabody Essex Museum’s atrium. “ALL KEYED UP” will feature the area’s marty-rowen-indoor-performance1hottest pianists, organists and keyboard players performing a full evening of jazz, soul, boogie woogie and blues.

Artists for the evening include Grammy Award-winner David Maxwell, Marty Rowen and Ken Clark of Fats Hammond, Jen Kearney of Jen Kearney and the Lost Onion and Benjamin Zecker of the Boston Horns.

The evening’s excusive sponsor is Tache Real Estate. The concert benefits the fourth-annual Salem Jazz and Soul Festival, scheduled for Aug. 21-22 at the Salem Willows, as well as four performances in Salem’s Derby Square throughout the summer. As in previous years, plans call for a week-long Festival of events and performances in clubs and restaurants in the city in mid-August.

Proceeds from the night will support the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival’s mission to support music education programs and provide free concerts for the public.

Tickets for the Spring Fundraiser are $50 per person or $45 for PEM members.

April/May Advanced Copies Are Out!

We just received advanced copies of the April/May issue of the magazine and it looks great! Of course, I’m a little biased so, I’ve included it here to let you be the judge.

Here’s a first look at some of the stories we’ve got for you in this issue:

  • In-depth look at Plum Island’s erosion problems
  • A sit-down with Chef Ken Duckworth
  • The story of the North Shore Music Theatre told by some of it’s legendary performers
  • Spring fashion
  • Review of Swampscott’s G Bar and Kitchen
  • Fig-infused strawberry tequila martini at Beverly’s Soma

Keep an eye out on the newsstands and in your mailbox. The spring issue will be available any day now!

Now it’s onto the summer issue and then BONS! Speaking of which, have you submitted your comments on the best spots on the North Shore? Head over to our BONS headquaters and join in the debate. So far, we’ve had over 800 comments posted. Wow.

Just Shipped the Spring Issue

Well, the hard work is over and the waiting has commenced. We just put the finishing touches on the April/May issue and while I can’t give away too much info, I can tell you this: it’s our finest work yet. I hope you’ll agree!

Our cover story, alone, should stir a debate among many North Shore residents and beach-goers. But that’s all I can say. Stop talking, now.

Which brings up a good question. What do you think about the new look of our magazine? The last issue (“Comfort Food” was the cover story) debuted a complete redesign of the book, front to back. Some of you emailed in with praise while others weren’t so sure about a few of the articles we published (namely, the lingerie photo shoot).

What’s your take? Do you like what we’ve done? Should we go back to the way it used to be? Let me know right here!

I’ll be posting regular blogs here with some behind-the-scenes takes on putting Northshore together as well as a few tidbits about my travels around the region. Got a favorite store or restaurant that you think I should check out?  How about a new hiking or biking trail? Whatever it is, feel free to post it here and I’ll do my best to get back to you.

As always, thanks for reading.
