G Bar & Kitchen
Gregg Brackman is a soft-spoken, unassuming man with the hands of a practiced chef. His kitchen is just as modest, but from that small scullery comes enormous flavors. By hand selecting his produce from a Chelsea market and purchasing prime-cut meats and fresh fish from top-line Boston vendors, Brackman assembles a locally sourced menu that features simple yet elegant dishes. Guests choose from a sophisticated wine list that highlights some of Brackman’s personal favorites. Popular plates include his “Day Boat Crafted by G.” 256 Humphrey St., 781-596-2228, gbarandkitchen.com.
Kell’s Kreme and Popo’s Hot Dogs
For a full-on-summertime splurge, grab a dog at Popo’s and chase it with a cone from Kell’s. These oceanside sister eateries appeal to the kid in everyone. In addition to gourmet hot dogs, Popo’s offers lobster and tuna rolls. Next door, Kell’s carries a classic selection of soft-serve ice cream and frozen yogurt. Their “jimmies” are said to be the best on the North Shore. 193 Humphrey St., 781-599-9900.
