The Boston Lobsters’ own John Isner will be repping the United States (and the North Shore) in the Summer Olympics this year.
Isner is currently the second highest ranking tennis player in America, which is why it should come as no surprise that he has been announced as a competitor in the Olympic Games held in London this summer. This week, the International Tennis Federation announced the full list of entries for the Olympic Tennis Event at The All England Club, running from  July 28 through August 5. The 64 competitors, including Isner, will represent 45 countries from around the globe. Isner has been selected to represent the U.S. Men’s Olympic tennis team in men’s singles and men’s doubles and he will play alongside fellow American players Andy Roddick, Donald Young, and Ryan Harrison. All players must meet the qualification criteria set by the ITF and be approved by the International Olympic Committee before they receive an official nomination from their National Olympic Committee.
You can cheer him on at the last home match of the Boston Lobsters 2012 season on July 23. It will be Isner’s last game before he leaves for his flight to London for the Olympics. Because of this announcement, the 7-23 match will start at 6 p.m. with the gates opening at 4 p.m.
