With a foothold in Boston’s Seaport District, the privately owned Temazcal Tequila Cantina is branching out with a second restaurant at MarketStreet, now in its fifth week of operation. Guatemalan-born executive chef Mynor Salguero expertly blends traditional Mexican cuisine with contemporary flavors using a host of natural ingredients. Simple preparations like locally crafted corn tortillas and fresh guacamole make an impression.
A collection of over 250 tequilas is stored in a “tequila library” built from 15-foot cabinets, from which bartenders pull to make their 10 signature margaritas. Natural materials like reclaimed wood, steel, wrought iron, and brass make for a warm environment in which to dine and catch a game on one of the many TVs stationed throughout the restaurant. During the warm months guests will appreciate the outdoor patio made comfortable with Spanish imported furniture and a cozy fire pit situated among futon couches. All told, Temazcal is a great spot to sip and sample the foods of old Mexico.
