Amy DePerrior Brackman is an artist by trade but a pragmatist at heart. As a makeup artist, she sees the potential in every face, but as an entrepreneur and busy mother of three, she knows how to differentiate between lofty dreams and everyday results. She is quick to note what works, treatment-wise, and how to work it, makeup-wise. Sharp, warm, and energetic, she is one of the North Shore’s top beauty resources.
“When I was young, I was a singer and a dancer; I was in a hip-hop group. I was always doing funky things with my makeup and hair,” she recalls. “One day a friend said I should try to get a job in the makeup industry,” she relates.
She landed her first cosmetics job at Filene’s at the age of 21. Largely self-taught, Brackman absorbed the tricks of her trade like a sponge.
Her tenacity landed her jobs at Neiman Marcus and Origins, and she also traveled, doing makeup for music videos and photo shoots. For four consecutive years, she was the chosen makeup artist for the New England Patriots cheerleaders’ annual swimsuit calendar.
While working at MAC Cosmetics in Boston, Brackman noticed a predominance of North Shore clients. Realizing an opportunity, the makeup maven set out on her own, opening LuxeBeautiQue in a small 700-square-foot space in Swampscott in June 2007.
But today, Brackman’s luxury spa and beauty bar has grown to a 2,000-square-foot destination with Newbury Street-caliber services and six different treatment rooms. Her staff includes professional makeup artists, licensed skin health experts, lash professionals, clinical estheticians, and a registered nurse who provides non-surgical treatments.
Besides prepping brides with spa services and day-of makeup application, LuxeBeautiQue specializes in custom treatment packages and even spa parties. “A bride and her friends can rent the entire spa for a night and indulge in mini-facials, mani/pedis, and airbrush tanning. It’s a great way for everyone to unwind and connect with one another.”
