Shooting begins this week on Manchester-By-The-Sea, which tells the story of the working-class Chandler family from Massachusetts. After Lee Chandler’s (Casey Affleck) older brother, Joe (Kyle Chandler), passes away suddenly he is made the legal guardian of his nephew. Lee is forced to deal with a tragic past that separated him from his wife Randi (Michelle Williams) and the community in which he was born and raised.
For authenticity the film is being shot on location in—you guessed it—Manchester-by-the-Sea. Not new to the Hollywood crowd, this town has seen its fair share of film crews set up on its rocky coast. The Good Son (1993), State and Main (2000), The Proposal (2009), and Edge of Darkness (2010) are among the titles it can claim.
Manchester-By-The-Sea is written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan who wrote and directed You Can Count on Me, Margaret. The film is being produced by Matt Damon, Kimberly Steward, Chris Moore, and Kevin Walsh through K Period Media.
