The ever-popular Opus on Washington Street is lending its space for 12 Sundays—one per month—to Salem–based non-profit organizations.
Understanding the amount of time, effort, and money goes into planning an event, the folks behind Opus decided to support area organizations by offering them a private room, light appetizers, and one-on-one guidance to plan and execute successful fundraisers.
“We love Salem,” says Opus’s general manager, Danny Giddings. “The community has been so welcoming to us over the past two years. This is our way of saying thank you.”
During those 12 Sundays, which are open to Salem-based 501c3 non-profit organizations, Opus will provide its popular Underground room and light stationary appetizers, free of charge. They also intend to help design and print materials for events. Organizations are free to collect suggested donations at the event entrance, set up auctions and raffles, hold presentations (using Opus’s 100-inch projector), and bring in entertainment to personalize the affair and maximize donor potential.
Philanthropic efforts have always been important to the staff at Opus, which is quick to act when there is a cause in need. This spring, the restaurant added a Nepal Roll to benefit the World Food Program’s efforts in Nepal. They also participated in Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer in May, and, more recently, donated a percentage of the restaurant’s sales from an evening to the Palmer Street Fire Victim’s Fund. Giddings also sits on the board at the Salem Theatre Company.
