History runs deep in Massachusetts. Throughout the North Shore, every town has a handful of shops, restaurants, and other establishments that have been in place for many decades.
To highlight these local icons, Northshore magazine selected 10 local institutions that have crossed the 50-year threshold. Northshore readers voted for their favorites, determining the five winners for this year’s 5 over 50.
Introducing the Northshore magazine 5 Over 50 for 2015 (in order of votes):
Pettengill Farm (est. 1792) – Salisbury
Richardson’s Ice Cream (est. 1700s) – Middleton
Putnam Pantry Candies (est. 1951) – Danvers
Turner’s Seafood (est. 1920) – Melrose
Ye Olde Pepper Candy Companie (est. 1806) – Salem
Pettengill Farm, the institution that received the most votes, was awarded a Northshore digital advertising package valued at $12,000. All of the 5 Over 50 winners were featured in Northshore’s October “Movers + Shakers” issue as well as honored at the issue release party on September 9, 2015.
