Although Halloween is usually considered a “children’s holiday,” according to a new national survey, increasing numbers of “furry kids” are getting in on the fun.  Big Heart Pet Brands (the makers of Milk-Bone, Pup-Peroni, Canine Carry Outs, and Milo’s Kitchen) conducted an original survey of 3,000 U.S. dog parents to determine the top 25 states that most include their pups in the Halloween festivities.

To determine the rankings, Milk-Bone and Milo’s Kitchen asked local pet parents about whether they dress up their dog in costume, take their dog trick-or-treating, or include them in a variety of other Halloween activities.  State results are shown below.

>>  Dress up their dog in costume:  45%

>>  Greet trick-or-treaters at the door with their dog:  36%

>>  Give their dog extra treats during Halloween:  27%

>>  Take their dog to doggy parades or gatherings:  9%

>>  Bring their dog trick-or-treating:  9%

The survey also uncovered the most popular treats to give “Doggy Tricksters” who come to your Halloween door:

>>  52% of Working Dogs — including Dobermans and Great Danes — prefer “natural meat and meat jerky” treats (like Milo’s Kitchen) 

>>  59% of Toy breeds — including Pomeranians and Pugs — most love “soft and chewy” treats (like Pup-Peroni)

>>  Soft and chewy snacks (like Canine Carry Outs) are also the favorite treats of Terriers (58%) and Non-Sporting breeds (47%).

>> Biscuits and crunchy treats (like Milk-Bone) are the top choice of Hounds (53%), Herding Dogs (56%), and Sporting Dogs (57%).
