Skinner, Inc. presents its second Fine Jewelry auction of 2016 on June 7 in Boston. The standout of this auction is an extraordinary Edwardian Natural Pearl and Diamond Necklace (Lot 559, estimated between $80,000 and $120,000) from an important Massachusetts estate. From the same estate is a Colombian Emerald and Emerald Drop (Lot 558, $25,000-$35,000). Another highlight among the Edwardian jewelry is a Burma Sapphire and Diamond Ring (Lot 554, $40,000-$60,000) that showcases the royal blue color that epitomizes the best Burma sapphires. Skinner, Inc. is also pleased to offer a rare Enamel and Diamond Pendant by Cartier (Lot 533, $8,000-$12,000); two pairs of Edwardian Platinum and Diamond Earpendants (Lot 552, $6,000-$8,000 and Lot 545, $2,500-$3,500); a Platinum and Diamond Bracelet by J.E. Caldwell (Lot 553, $8,000-$10,000); and an Emerald and Diamond Ring (Lot 539, $3,000-$5,000).
The auction contains a wide array of approximately forty diamond rings, ranging in size from under 1 carat to over 6 carats. The major diamonds include a Platinum and Diamond Old European-Cut Solitaire weighing 6.66 carats (Lot 398, $25,000-$35,000), a Platinum and Diamond Marquise-Cut Solitaire weighing 6.12 carats (Lot 400, $15,000-$25,000), and a Platinum and Pear-Shape Diamond weighing 3.08 carats (Lot 399, $15,000-$20,000). In addition, they are offering many Art Deco, Edwardian, and Antique diamond rings with smaller stones in distinctive designs.
Several groups of antique jewelry from notable collectors are featured in the auction. Of particular interest is a Rare Etruscan Revival Gold Bracelet by Ernesto Pierret (Lot 335, $7,000-$9,000). Other lots include a Victorian “Fede” Bracelet by John Brogdan (Lot 309, $2,000-$3,000), an Antique Cannetille-work Brooch (Lot 322, $7,000-$9,000), and an Antique Diamond Swallow Brooch, (Lot 273, $5,000-$7,000).
Among the many designer pieces in the sale, there are several worthy of special mention. From the noted jewelry designer Carvin French is a beautiful 18kt Gold, Jasper, and Gem-set Bracelet (Lot 186, $4,000-$6,000). Also on offer are several pieces by Van Cleef & Arpels, including a Pair of 18kt Gold and Diamond “Alhambra” Earrings (Lot 501, $6,000-$7,000), a whimsical 18kt Gold Gem-set Poodle Brooch (Lot 229, $1,500-$2,000), and a pair of 18kt Gold, Diamond, and Sapphire Earclips (Lot 160, $4,000-$6,000). Other designers include Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Boucheron, Maubossin, Kieselstein-Cord, H. Stern, Stephen Webster, Oscar Heyman, and David Webb.
