Michele Borba, Ed.D., an internationally-recognized childhood psychologist and author on topics related to parenting and developing the character of children, will speak at Glen Urquhart School on October 19 at 7:00 p.m. Borba is a best-selling author of twenty-two books and one of the foremost authorities in the country on strengthening children’s empathy and resilience. She is an NBC contributor who appears regularly on the Today Show and has been featured as an expert on Dateline, The View, NBC Nightly News, Fox & Friends, Dr. Oz, CNN as well as in Newsweek, People, Good Housekeeping, Chicago Tribune, U.S. News & World Report, Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Globe and Mail.
Borba’s latest book, UnSelfie: Why Empathetic Kids Succeed in Our All-About-Me World, pinpoints the forces causing the “Empathy Crisis” and shares a revolutionary, researched-based plan that gives parents nine proven and teachable habits to reverse it. She discusses why developing empathy is a key predictor to helping kids succeed in our global, digitally-driven world.
Borba’s detailed guide is designed to help families and educators discuss how to apply these strategies to create more empathetic and resilient students, and to help parents and schools build brighter futures for all kids from poverty or privilege. According to Philip Zimbardo, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Stanford University, “Michele Borba has written a game-changing guide showing why nurturing empathy in our children isn’t optional — it’s essential.”
“Creating empathetic and resilient students is as important in today’s world as any academic skill and Michele Borba is providing parents and educators with the tools they need to develop and strengthen these skills. We look forward to having Michele visit and speak at GUS,” said David Liebmann, Head of Glen Urquhart School.
