On Thursday, April 13, Salem, New Hampshire-based 36creative hosted its first-ever Spring Soirée as a celebration of its clients, partners, and contemporaries at The Blochaus Art Gallery, an up-and-coming contemporary art gallery hidden in the old mills of Lawrence owned by Methuen native and Blochaus resident artist Mark Comeau; his artist’s name is Markus Sebastiano.

“36 is a family, and when clients become a part of it, we want to make our appreciation known,” says Emma Fairweather, 36creative marketing manager.

Guests sipped on cocktails, beer, and wine from Founders Brewing, Traveling Vineyard, and Effen Vodka, and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres surrounded by artwork from such artists as Problak (Boston), Soem (Boston), Markus Sebastiano, resident artist Jeffrey Erler (Haverhill), Jonhen (Lawrence), Dana Woulfe (Beverly), Bob Packert/Red Raven in collaboration with Andrew Bablo (Beverly), Ben Stebbings (Ipswich), Karen Jerzyk (Boston), Bryan Grose (Detroit), Free Humanity (Los Angeles), and Tnert (Salem, New Hampshire), owner of 36creative and the reason behind the partnership; he does the branding for The Blochaus. Pieces that include old clocks and signs, selected by Mark Oliveri of Café Berlin Antiques, also adorn the walls of the gallery. Artists are 75 percent local, with some bigger names brought in, such as L.A.-based Free Humanity, whose pieces were being sold at the event by House of Roulx & Co., “to create some more attention,” says Comeau.

Since its grand opening in December, The Blochaus Art Gallery, which is the first of its kind in the area, has hosted two art shows, both featuring a 12-artist rotation that each have one piece— “Established” and the current “Tomorrow,” in which artists used the process of urban decay as inspiration for their pieces. Each show, all of which have their own storyline, will last for 3-4 months.

“Our goal is to showcase established and up-and-coming artists together in one amazing gallery space north of Boston,” says Comeau. “We would like to connect the dots for buyers looking for local/international original works of contemporary art.”

The Blochaus, which is also made up of Derek Wakeen (branding), Nicole Guselli (producer), and Kihana Pinzon (assistant curator), will continue to feature rotating art work in its themed shows, as well as host private events.

36creative’s successful Spring Soiree was sponsored by Northshore magazine, Cedar’s Hummus, Founders Brewing, Traveling Vineyard, Sean H. Mitchell, Pablo Mora, Blochaus Art Gallery, Eastern Bank, and DJ’s Custom Clothing.
