Anthony Caturano, chef and owner of Prezza and Tonno, is proud to announce plans for a second Tonno restaurant in Wakefield, located in the luxury mixed-used development, Wakefield Station, at 175 North Avenue.
Caturano’s second Tonno location will bring a new level of sophistication to the Wakefield dining scene within the framework of Italian favorites. The space is 4,100 square feet featuring 110 seats inside and a 65-seat outdoor patio for al fresco dining, along with a 65-seat private dining room for special events. There is a full liquor license and the menu and wine list will mirror his first Tonno location in downtown Gloucester. David Petrilli, his partner at Prezza will also join this venture. Chef Neal Maver will leave the Tonno Gloucester location to head up the kitchen in Wakefield while chef Aaron Budak—previously at Townsman—will replace Maver in Gloucester. Maver and Budak spent years together working at Gaslight restaurant.

“I have to thank my partner and general contractor, Matthew Maggiore, president of The Maggiore Companies, for encouraging me to bring my old-world style of coastal Italian seafood to the vibrant town of Wakefield,” says Caturano. “I instantly fell in love with the town, Wakefield Station, and its surrounding area. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my favorite culinary dishes with this community, and look forward to their input and feedback.”
The culinary program is designed to showcase coastal Italian classics, with nightly specials that reflect the catch of the day from local waters. The menu consists of an array of sfizi and primi options to start; signature homemade pastas; secondi courses such as roasted cod oreganata, cioppino, and of course fresh grilled tonno steak (tonno is the Italian word for Tuna); and decadent desserts. The beverage program is curated to highlight classic Italian cocktails, a selection of local and regional craft beers, and a list of 150 wines focused on Italian varietals.
“The Wakefield community is going to love Anthony’s dishes if they haven’t had the opportunity to visit his flagship restaurant, Prezza in Boston’s North End, or his first Tonno location in Gloucester,” says Maggiore. “Partnering with him on his latest venture also guarantees when I send family, friends, and business associates into the restaurant, I’m at ease knowing they’re being treated to the finest Italian dishes in the area, along with receiving a world-class dining experience.”
Tonno restaurant will be open seven days a week, Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5:00 – 11:30 p.m., and the bar always opens at 4:00 p.m. Brunch will also be available on Sundays. There is ample street parking and is a short distance away from the Wakefield MBTA stop.
