Even the children are celebrating The House of the Seven Gables’ 350th anniversary. And all are invited to their party on Wednesday, August 9, at 1 p.m., at The House of the Seven Gables

The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association extends an invitation to the community to join 20 young friends of The Gables as they close out another summer of Caribbean Connections’ activities. The youngsters, all from multilingual homes, have spent the last five weeks at The Gables learning about the connection of Caribbean history to Salem’s colonial history. At the same time, they worked to enrich their English vocabulary.

To conclude their summer Caribbean Connection program, the children will inaugurate a Little Free Library at The Gables. They will also have some fun performing on drums along with Mamadou Diop.

The 20 children will also display the traditional Dominican Faceless Dolls they’ve created. These dolls represent the diversity of Caribbean culture, encompassing its native Taino, colonial and slave history. And, finally, the children will honor the 350th anniversary of The House of the Seven Gables, built by the son of an indentured English servant in 1668.
