The Misery Island Castaway Tours and the Island Hops Tours, both out of Salem, begin this week.
Salem, MA – Essex Heritage this season offers two new public boat tours to Misery Island. Each tour will take a unique look at the history of the Salem Sound islands and their inhabitants.
“In addition to our regular trips to Bakers Island Light Station, we are delighted to launch two new boat tours to Misery Island this summer in cooperation with the Trustees of Reservations,” said Annie C. Harris, Essex Heritage CEO. “These tours offer something for everyone, from Notch Beer to a hunt for pirate treasure. These are unique opportunities to visit this beautiful island and a fun way to learn about local history.”
The Island Hops Tour is an early evening 21+ cruise of the Salem Sound islands and includes a refreshing Notch Beer. This narrated tour will give you an up-close look of Eagle Island, Children’s Island, Bakers Island, and includes stopping and disembarking on Misery Island.
Island Hops Tours depart at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays starting June 27 and running through August 29. Tickets may be purchased here.
The Misery Island Castaway Tour will take you directly to Misery Island. On the way, hear thrilling tales of the pirates and privateers who sailed these waters. Once on Misery Island, gather clues to hunt for pirate treasure amongst the island’s mysterious ruins. This tour is for all ages (4+).
Misery Island Castaway Tours depart at 2:00 p.m. on Fridays starting June 28 and running through August 30. Tickets may be purchased here.
All tours leave from the dock adjacent to the Salem Ferry Landing at 10 Blaney Street, just past the House of the Seven Gables. Free parking is available next to the dock. Naumkeagis a large, open landing craft with a bow front that drops down so passengers can walk directly onto the stone beach (not landing at a dock).
