Plum Island Beach/Crane Beach, Ipswich

Separated by the Plum Island Sound inlet, Crane Beach and Plum Island offer two different beach experiences on either side of the same narrow body of water. Crane Beach, operated by The Trustees of Reservations, offers a long, pristine stretch of white sandy beach and all the amenities to make a great beach day, including lifeguards, a snack bar, eco-friendly bathroom and bathing facilities, a huge parking lot, and services for those with disabilities. On the other side of Plum Island Sound, Plum Island’s Sandy Point State Reservation on the southern tip of the island offers a more rustic beachgoing experience, with a tiny parking lot that fills up quickly and hardly any crowds. The rest of Plum Island is just as charming, with beaches within the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, the public Plum Island Beach, and easygoing restaurants.
