These boards are as lovely to admire as they are to eat, but what really sets apart Modern Butcher is that they make most of their offerings from locally raised animals. Owners Warren and Lisa Means have two curing caves, full of Italian specialties like coppa, guanciale, and lonzo, and even a prosciutto patiently aging. In addition to house-made charcuterie, patrons can select from any combination of sweets, cheese, fruit, crackers, and a variety of house-made pâtés. The shop ramps up its offerings for major holidays (ask about the antipasto tree), but with advance notice, can fashion one for any event. Explore the shop’s Instagram feed to see examples.
