2024 New Restaurant

Editors’ choice

The Rudder, Gloucester

The Rudder was a stalwart of Gloucester’s artists’ colony Rocky Neck for decades, before closing in 2013. Last year, Boston star chef Barbara Lynch brought this local waterfront institution back to life—and then some. The seasonally evolving menu blends the traditional and the contemporary, with a focus on fresh seafood. No visit is complete without a taste of Babette’s Butter Soup, a mostly butter broth poured over a mound of fresh shellfish and topped with a dollop of caviar. 73 Rocky Neck Ave., Gloucester, 351-217-1265, therudderrockyneck.com

Readers’ choice

Outrider Beer Company, Amesbury

Yes, Outrider’s beer is delicious and thoughtfully brewed, but the chef-created menu of elevated pub food, which runs the gamut from house-made chicken tenders to shrimp fried rice, is clearly not an afterthought. The brick walls, airy space, and warm welcome make this a family-friendly place you’ll want to visit again and again. 35 Main St., Amesbury, 978-792-5917, outriderbeer.com
