The Grog, Newburyport
A Newburyport institution for more than 50 years, The Grog offers a classic bar atmosphere, complete with lots of dark wood and inviting booths. Once you’re in, the 32 draught lines will keep you in your seat, exploring the bar’s extensive lineup of beers. Guinness is poured next to ales brewed right up the street at local microbreweries; a Bud Light shares space with craft beers from around the region. 13 Middle St., Newburyport, 978-465-8008, thegrog.comReaders’ Choice
Outrider Beer Company, Amesbury
The beer menu at Outrider Beer Co. is a tight list of eight varieties all brewed in-house. A choice between 16- and 9-ounce pours lets guests more easily sample across the spectrum of beers, from an orangey, hazy IPA to a dark Belgian dubbel. The scratch-made food makes a great accompaniment to these malty meanderings. 35 Main St., Amesbury, 978-792-5917, outriderbeer.com
