On Sunday, September 17, the 10th annual A Reason to Ride fundraiser, founded by Peabody resident and brain cancer survivor Tom DesFosses and presented by Fuddruckers, will be held at 75 Sylvan Street in Danvers, in order to raise money for cancer research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).
Participants will ride in one of three distance categories: 10 miles, 25 miles, or 50 miles, traversing along the coast of the North Shore, from Danvers to Wenham, Hamilton, Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Gloucester, Ipswich, Georgetown, and Topsfield, depending on the length of the ride chosen, before returning to Danvers. For the second consecutive year, a 5K walk has been added to the schedule. In addition, there is also a kid’s ride.
“For me, this ride will be very emotional, but in another way it will give me incredible joy,”? says DesFosses. ”It will give me time to think of others who are not able to join me on this quest. I look forward to having hundreds of other cyclists and walkers join me on this ride (or walk).”?
Participants pay a registration fee ranging from $25 to $150 to raise money to support cancer research at BIDMC. Attendees also are encouraged to solicit additional funds from friends and family. Each cyclist/walker will receive a catered barbecued lunch from Fuddruckers.
In addition to Fuddruckers, other sponsors of A Reason to Ride include Novacure, Hot 96.9, Magic 106.7, Kathy Joyce Photography, Pedro’s Judo Center, Jungle Prints, Beverly Cycles/B2, EBSCO, Brookwood, Prescriptive Marketing, The Print House, and Dunkin Donuts/Galopim Group.
