Comprehensive cancer care just got closer. The Anna Jaques Cancer Center affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) has recently opened at the Newburyport Medical Center on the Anna Jaques campus.
The Center brings together a committed multi-disciplinary team of experts from Anna Jaques and BIDMC to work together to diagnose and direct the treatment of patients with all types of cancers and hematological diseases.
The Center offers a full array of community-based cancer services in Newburyport and, when needed, advanced treatment options and specialists at BIDMC in Boston.
“The opening of the Anna Jaques Cancer Center affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center exemplifies the tangible benefit of the clinical affiliation between the two institutions that enhances the care available to our community,” says Mark Goldstein, president and CEO of Anna Jaques. “Now patients locally will have world-class cancer specialists on their care team without having to travel to downtown Boston.”
“The team of cancer specialists at these two institutions is committed to providing to the Anna Jaques community leading-edge cancer care, encompassing a full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment programs,” says Kevin Tabb, MD, president and CEO of BIDMC. “We are pleased to establish this affiliation that brings the best of Boston’s cancer care to Newburyport.”
The Center will be led by medical director Jonathan Eneman, MD, an oncologist on staff with Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at BIDMC. Eneman joins the Center from York Hospital in Maine, where he served as chairman of the Department of Medicine and helped the oncology program receive the New Program Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
Board-certified in hematology and oncology, Eneman received his medical degree from the University of Vermont (UVM), served as an intern and resident at BIDMC, and completed his fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at UVM. Dr. Claire Fung provides the radiation oncology services at Anna Jaques Cancer Center affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Fung is a board-certified radiation oncologist trained at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. She has been practicing at Anna Jaques since 2009.
Laura Rossi, RN, MSN, OCN, is the Center’s director of oncology services and brings 23 years of experience to this role. The extended team of highly trained caregivers includes: board certified, highly skilled medical oncologists; radiation oncologists; radiologists; surgeons; pathologists; nurses; physical therapists; occupational therapists; pharmacists; technologists; support staff; and other professionals dedicated to treating cancer patients. All of the nurses are certified in oncology and have an average of 20 years of experience.
Eneman is now accepting new patients and will be working in collaboration with colleagues at Anna Jaques and BIDMC to provide the most excellent cancer and hematology care.
