On February 8, 2010, 6 o’clock at Bass River Tennis Club, Beverly Bootstraps Community Services will be hosting a ‘Bootstraps Best Chef’ Competition that will look much like the Iron Chef competitions seen on TV. The event will be held at Bass River Tennis Club and Billy Costa will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. The event will be spotlighted on Billy’s show, TV Diner on NECN.
Four local, chef-owned restaurants will compete chef to chef in a cook-off using 75% Bootstraps Community Services food pantry ingredients and 25% of their kitchen ingredients. Prior to the event chefs will shop at the Beverly Bootstraps Community Services food pantry to obtain ingredients and plan their entree. The chefs will prepare the food live at the event and be judged by local foodies. The winner will be named “Bootstraps Best Chef”. Judges of the evening will include Beverly’s Mayor William F. Scanlon, Northeast Health Systems CEO Ken Hanover, and a third judge Anna Kasabian.

Brenden Crocker’s Wild Horse Cafe, Harry’s 240, Chianti Tuscan Restaurant, and Tryst.
Stolichnaya will sponsor a cocktail competition where six local bartenders will create a special cocktail using stoli vodka products and be judged by a stoli representative. Samples of stoli product will also be available for guests to taste. Participating restaurants in the cocktail competition include: Mandrake, Brenden Crocker’s Wild Horse Cafe, Chianti Tuscan Restaurant, Tryst, and Harry’s 240 and one more TBD. These restaurants have agreed to serve the winning cocktail and to donate part of the proceeds of the sales of the winning cocktail to Bootstraps.
Brian King will provide musical entertainment. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar and will round out the evening for spectators and foodies attending.

$30: Feeds one visitor to the Food Pantry
$50: Buys enough food to distribute 25 children’s lunches
$100: Seating at the Food Critic Tables, limited to 24

Beverly Bootstraps Community Services is a non-profit organization providing essential services including a Food Pantry, Adult Education & Workforce Development Programming, Youth Education Programs, Financial Education & Basic Money Management Classes, case management, summer lunch programs, back to school supplies, gifts for children during the holidays, community gardens and other empowerment programs to promote education and help prevent homelessness.
