North Shore Community Development Coalition’s (CDC) YouthBuild program was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from Bike & Build. North Shore CDC was chosen as a recipient due to their impact to the affordable housing landscape on the North Shore and their ability to engage young adults in the process.
Bike & Build has partnered with North Shore CDC on their summer Build Days in the past – an event that celebrates community service and engaging young adults around the North Shore. Several service activities are coordinated for this special Bike & Build Service Day for riders that participate in their coastal drift bike tour.
“We appreciate all that [North Shore CDC does] for affordable housing in [their] community,” said Justin Villere, Senior Director of Operations and Development for Bike & Build, Inc.
Specifically, this grant will benefit the organization’s YouthBuild North Shore program and support advanced training in green construction certification for the young people YouthBuild serves. YouthBuild participants will have the opportunity to focus on the “Your Role in Green” curriculum that will teach them to incorporate green practices into their construction work. In addition, a certification in Weatherization through the Building Performance Institute will also become available because of Bike & Build’s support. This will provide advanced training and expertise in a growing employment sector.
