It seems like quite a few bakeries have been popping up around the state recently and this past summer another one opened up in Newburyport. Goose Chase Baking Co. is a fantastic new bakery for people looking for a nice, quiet place to grab a fresh scone and local roasted coffee.
With an extremely sweet five stars on their Facebook reviews (11 different five star reviews) and great looking pastries, this bakery seems a cut above the rest. The community in Newburyport seems to love this little cafe’s food and friendly staff. A look on the Facebook page almost makes you want to take a trip over immediately with one person stating, “A wonderful place to stop in every morning for your morning cup on the way to work or meet a friend for coffee and a chat.”
The owner of Goose Chase Baking Co., Gina DiGiovanni, has quite the wonderful story about how she came to bake delicious goodies for the people of Newburyport. As Gina tells it, every Saturday morning during the late ‘90s she would wake up and watch the PBS morning cooking shows in their entirety; her favorite being Baking with Julia. She eventually purchased the coffee shop called Soufflés, also in Newburyport, and after a year her baker moved away. Gina claims it was hard for her to find another baker that “met [her] standards” so she, hesitantly, stepped up to be the new baker. Baking for herself soon became her favorite part of the job and she decided to bake full-time.
Goose Chase Baking Co. is open weekdays (except Tuesdays) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit their website for the menu or just head on in and grab any pastry that looks good—you won’t be disappointed.
