Tucked down a narrow street in historic Winchester is a new showroom brimming with beauty. Bespoke of Winchester opened this past April and showcases kitchens designed by Melinda Guglietta and her team. “I decided to open a kitchen showroom here because there was really nothing like it,” she says. “I had worked with Tony and Doug on a few kitchen jobs and we decided we could form a company and pool our talents together.”
Bespoke is a British term, which means something custom-made—it typically applies to men’s tailored suits, but Guglietta thought the name was befitting her new endeavor. Guglietta and her team of designers and master carpenters create kitchens and bathrooms for the North Shore and beyond. “We make all our cabinetry in Revere—everything is done locally.” The 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art workshop bustles with master carpenters honing their craft.
Guglietta meets with clients to get an understanding of their needs—right down to specifications on how big the dinner plates are, so the cabinets will be built wide enough to accommodate them. “It is really important to understand how a client is going to use the space,” notes Guglietta. She man- ages the entire process from the first consultation to the delivery and installation of the cabinets and appliances. “It really is about the details that make a kitchen functional,” notes Guglietta. And no detail is left to chance under her guidance. She is well versed in every kitchen design style and can accommodate every taste—from traditional, transitional, modern, and Euro. “We also design and build closets and mudrooms,” says Guglietta.
Guglietta studied architectural engineering at the University of Hartford and does all her kitchen design drawings by hand. The showroom is also perfectly designed to give potential clients a sense of the spatial relationships between features of a kitchen—for instance, the correct distance between an island and counter sink or stove. Guglietta is also knowledgeable about universal design and keeps up on the latest trends on kitchen ergonomics to pass along to her clients. “I see a big trend in under-counter drawers,” she notes. She also finds green trends on the rise, with 30 percent of her clients inquiring about sustainable materials.
