It’s beginning to get chilly out again, which means it’s time for me to overuse the word cozy for the rest of the season. And, after seeking out the coziest spaces around, I’m starting at the beginning: breakfast. These spots are intimate, well-proportioned and full of personality — just right for enjoying the most important meal of the day.

What makes it cozy? Your favorite things.
The shelves in this dining room are full of colorful books, making it easy to grab something to flip through with morning tea. Family photos, antique wooden boxes and architectural pieces also reside among the volumes. A collection of antique blue and white Canton china plates on the wall adds age, more color and interest.
What is this breakfast spot serving up? The room has the elegance of a Parisian apartment, so French toast.

What makes it cozy? A hint of 1960s den vibe (and I mean that in the best way).?
Plaid upholstery on the banquette gives it a comfy rec room sofa feeling, while clean lines and muted colors make it modern. Bentwood chairs and a funky anglepoise light fixture add to the sophisticated update of Mad Men style.

What makes it cozy? Sunflowers, an old-fashioned drop-leaf table, cushy pillows and get-a-load-of-those window treatments.

Nestled in a bay of windows, the banquette in this eat-in kitchen is full of lively color and textiles, with no detail forgotten. Patterned drapes layered over bamboo blinds create a soft oasis — check out the playful pompom trim that ties in with the vibrant seat cushions and pillows. And, of course, you can’t go wrong with sunflowers when you’re getting your cozy on.

What makes it cozy? The proportions and curves.
This modest dining nook gets some elegant shine from the chandelier, mirror and glass lamps. And the muted grasscloth wallcovering, light wood table and chairs and gracious curves keep the room from feeling too boxy. The result is a snug space that embraces those sitting at the table like a hug.

What makes it cozy? The small table, oversized light and gallery of vintage art and mirrors.
What could have been a dead corner is livened up by color and paintings with warm gold frames. The burled wood table, bright green chairs and large pendant light all help with the morning wakeup.
What is this breakfast spot serving up? It’s eclectic, it’s different, it’s not afraid to try new things. Green eggs and ham.

What makes it cozy? Eclectic objects, the basketweave on the pendant light, the area rug and the fuzzy sheepskins.
This Swedish eat-in area full of Scandinavian modern whites is a great spot for the whole family to nestle in, thanks to armchairs for the big kids and parents and a higher chair for a little one. The pendant light adds an organic element, while antique objects along the windowsill bring in color and patina.
What is this breakfast spot serving up? Since the room is delightfully simple, we’ll stay away from the Swedish breakfast fish and stick with a nice bowl of muesli.
