Certain shops cannot be put into just one box, and such is the case with Roost & Company, located on Front Street in Salem and Cabot Street in Beverly. This dual location store is home to an eclectic collection of trendy items including jewelry, baby clothing, and so much more. A recent visit to the Salem location found co-owner (husband Jamie Metsch is partner in life and in Roost!) Kate Leavy on site excitedly arranging new inventory. The footprint of the store is expansive, but Leavy’s knack for placement and design keeps it welcoming and warm (she says when she places a product order, she immediately starts imagining where it will be displayed once it arrives).

One of Roost’s greatest strengths lies in its ability to offer items customers want, but in an unexpected way. Take for example a baby gift. Many people will find themselves in the position of needing one, but clicking “purchase” in an online baby registry is about as impersonal as it gets. At Roost, their selection of baby fashions and other essentials is carefully selected, ensuring a stylish gift that is sure to make a lasting impression, and who doesn’t want their baby to be on the receiving end of that? Leavy makes a point to feature local designers, the shop currently has designs from Tina Labadini, including this tongue and cheek “Keeper” fish onesie that is sure to delight any parent. The shop is also having a lot of fun with the gender neutral “Plot Twist” onesies by Old Barn Rescue Company and the “I will be mighty” onesie by The Coin Laundry.

Socks continue to be an of-the-moment item, and the fun lines carried at Roost, including those by Blue Q and Sock It to Me are a hit with men, women and children of all ages. Stop into the store to see their ever changing selection and to have a good laugh at many of the humorous sayings and depictions.

What good is the perfect gift without the perfect finishing touches? Many customers frequent Roost for their greeting card selection as well as their wrapping paper and ribbon. Card giving has become its own form of fashion in recent years, and there’s no better place to pick up a card for any occasion (seriously Roost has covered them all). Their collection includes Rifle Paper Co., Lucky Horse Press, Hello Small World, Modern Printed Paper and more. New agendas are out, and now is the perfect time to pick up a fashionable and functional paper planner ahead of fall.
